What does a marketing consultant do, and what do you get from us?

A marketing consultant in Germany helps you decide what to do, in which order and how to tell whether it works. The consultant does not run your campaigns day to day. Our consulting offer has three formats, which you can book alone or one after another.

FormatQuestion it answersWhat you receiveWho it suits
Marketing auditWhere do we stand, and what holds us back?A written review of goals, website, search visibility, advertising accounts, tracking and follow-up, with the main findings rankedCompanies with existing marketing that is hard to judge
Strategy and planWhat should we do next, and in which order?A strategy with target customers, offer and channels, a ranked list of measures and the figures to trackCompanies planning a launch, a market entry or a new year
Team supportHow do we keep it on track?Regular sessions or workshops with you and your team, review of work, decisions recordedTeams that carry out the work themselves and want a senior second opinion

Some buyers search for a growth consultant or a digital marketing consultant. The work is the same. We look for the few measures that are most likely to bring customers, and we make them measurable.

Do you need a consultant, an agency or a freelancer?

It depends on whether you need advice, execution or one specific skill. Many companies need advice first and execution second.

We work as a consultant and as an agency, so we can say when you need the other format. Our guide on how to choose a marketing agency in Germany gives the questions to ask of any provider, including us.

How does a consulting project run?

  1. Free first call by video, 30 minutes. You describe your offer, your customers and your goal. We say whether consulting is the right format.
  2. Scope and access. We agree the format, who takes part and which accounts and figures we may look at. You receive a quote.
  3. Analysis. We review your material and figures and talk to the people who deal with customers.
  4. Working session. We present the findings and build the strategy and the priorities together with you.
  5. Handover. You receive the plan in writing, with priorities, owners and measures.
  6. Follow-up, if you want it. Review sessions, or help with carrying out the plan.

We state no duration up front. How long it takes depends on how many areas we review and how quickly access and figures arrive. Sessions can be held in English or German.

What do you hold in your hands at the end?

You hold a plan that someone can act on the next day. The result is written down, ranked and tied to figures, so you can carry it out yourself, hand it to your team or ask an agency to execute it.

  • A short strategy document with target customers, offer and channel choice
  • A ranked list of measures, each with an owner and the reason for its place
  • The figures to track, how each one is defined and where it comes from
  • A list of things to stop or postpone
  • Briefing notes for an agency or freelancer, if you decide to hire one, so that offers become comparable

A plan improves your chances. It does not remove uncertainty. We make no promises about rankings, enquiries or revenue.

What does a marketing audit cover?

An audit looks at the whole path from the first contact to the closed deal, because a weak step anywhere wastes the money spent before it.

  • Goals and offer. What do you want to achieve, and is the offer clear to a stranger?
  • Website. Do the pages answer the questions of buyers, and is the next step obvious?
  • Search. What does Search Console show about your visibility, and what is missing?
  • Paid channels. How are the accounts structured, how is tracking set up and who owns the accounts?
  • Local presence. Is your Google Business Profile complete, and are reviews and details consistent?
  • Follow-up. How fast and how well are enquiries answered?
  • Measurement. Can you see enquiries by source and, ideally, the customers that come from them?

We work with the figures you have. Where figures are missing, we say so and propose how to start counting.

What are fractional marketing support and workshops?

Fractional support describes a format. A company books a fixed amount of senior marketing time each month, for example a weekly call, a review of the team’s work and help with decisions, without hiring a full-time head of marketing. Some people call this a fractional CMO. We describe the format here and claim no title in your company.

Workshops are shorter. Typical topics are setting goals and figures, choosing channels, planning tracking, writing a briefing for an agency and reading a monthly report.

Both formats are agreed individually after the first call. Which one fits depends on the size of your team and on how much of the work it can do itself.

Who leads the work?

Simon Krebs founded Digital030 in 2017. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and a Master of Arts in Entrepreneurial Risk Management, both from Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal.

From May 2024 to November 2025 he was start-up manager for marketing, sales and automation at SolarX GmbH in Berlin. In that role he was responsible for marketing and sales and for the digital sales and marketing set-up. He ran performance campaigns on Google Ads and Meta Ads, introduced automated lead flows, CRM processes and after-sales systems, and led the sales team, including responsibility for revenue development.

Since 2024 he has also been the voluntary managing director of Brandenburger Wohnungsnotfallhilfe gGmbH, a social organisation in Brandenburg that works on homelessness. His experience includes sales as a setter and closer, in his own agency and in photovoltaic and coaching sales.

He works as a marketing consultant near Berlin and for companies across Germany. German is his native language, and he speaks English fluently. More background is on the about page (German).

When is a consultant not the right choice?

  • You want someone to run campaigns every week. An agency, or a freelancer for one channel, fits better. We can do that as a separate service.
  • You expect a promise of results. We give none.
  • Nobody on your side can carry out a plan or make decisions. A plan needs an owner.
  • You need legal or tax advice. We recommend a specialist for that.
  • You want a price from a form. Quotes follow the first call.

If the work is mostly execution, our marketing agency page for Germany describes that format.

Frequently asked questions

What does a marketing consultant do?›
A marketing consultant reviews your current marketing, decides with you what to do next, ranks the measures and defines how to measure them. The consultant advises and plans. Carrying out the plan is done by you, your team, an agency or a freelancer.
How much does a marketing consultant cost?›
Consultants usually price by scope and depth, for example the number of areas reviewed, the number of sessions and whether written results and follow-up are included. We publish no prices and quote after the first call. Compare offers by what you receive, not only by the total.
What is the difference between a marketing consultant and a marketing agency?›
A consultant gives advice, priorities and a plan. An agency carries out the work in the channels, month after month. Many companies start with a consultant to decide what to do and then hire an agency, or their own team, to do it.
What is a fractional CMO?›
The term usually means a senior marketing lead who works for a company for a limited number of days or hours each month. It has no fixed definition, so ask what is included, also when you look for a fractional CMO in Germany. We describe fractional support as a format and make no claim about a job title.
When should I hire a marketing consultant?›
Typical moments are a launch, a market entry, a change of agency, a new marketing team, or spending on marketing without being able to count the enquiries it brings. A consultant also helps when you have many ideas and no clear order for them.
Can a marketing consultant help me enter the German market?›
We can plan the marketing side, such as the German-language offer, audience, channels and measurement. Registration, tax, company law and other legal matters are for specialists. Our guide on marketing your business in Germany is a good first read.
Is marketing consulting subsidised in Germany?›
Some German programmes can co-fund business consulting for small and medium-sized companies. Conditions change and not every project qualifies, so we check the current rules before you spend money and promise nothing. The German page on funded consulting (German) explains the current position.
Do you consult in English?›
Yes. Sessions, written results and quotes can be in English or German, and Simon Krebs speaks both languages. Your customers’ language is a separate question, and we plan that with you.
